In plain terms
Three cookies are ours. The rest belong to Google.
Ours keep you signed in, stop forged form posts, and remember which language you picked — none of them follow you anywhere. The tracking on this site is Google Analytics and the ads on the free tiers, and both of those are Google's cookies, set under Google's rules.
- Our cookies
- 3
- Third parties
- Google only
- Analytics off
- Sign in, one switch
- Ads on paid plans
- None
The cookies we set
Three, all of them necessary for the site to work, none of them used to measure or advertise anything. Blocking them will sign you out and break form submissions.
- sessionid Keeps you signed in and holds what a tool is part-way through. The contents live in our cache, not in the cookie.
- 2 weeks
- csrftoken Proves a form was submitted from this site and not from someone else's page pretending to be you.
- 1 year
- django_language Written only when you choose a language, so the next page arrives in it.
- Until browser closes
The cookies Google sets
These are set by Google's scripts, not by ours, and Google decides their names and lifetimes. We can tell you which scripts we load and when:
- Google Analytics 4 Which pages get visited, which tools get used, whether a run finished. Sets _ga and _ga_<id>. Loaded on every page unless you are signed in with analytics turned off.
- Up to 2 years
- Google Ads conversion tag Tells us whether a visitor who arrived from one of our ads went on to use a tool. It is part of the same Analytics script.
- Up to 2 years
- Google AdSense The ads on the free tiers. Loaded only where an ad slot renders, which is nowhere at all on a paid plan.
- Google's terms
- Google Sign-In The sign-in card and the "Sign in with Google" button. Google's own cookies do the signing in; we never see your Google password.
- Google's terms
How Google uses what it collects is set out in Google's own notice for sites that use its services.
Storage that is not a cookie
The browser tools keep things on your device, because that is where they run. This is local storage and IndexedDB, not cookies: none of it is sent to us, and clearing your site data removes all of it.
- A file you hand from one tool to another — "send this to the compressor" — is held in an IndexedDB database on your machine until the receiving tool picks it up.
- Recent results, tool preferences and the state of a page you were part-way through are kept in local storage so a reload does not lose your work.
- The OCR engine and other large libraries are cached by your browser so the second use does not download them again.
What does not run here
Worth stating, because an earlier version of this page claimed several of them and because the list is short:
- No Meta pixel, no LinkedIn tag, no X tag.
- No Microsoft Clarity, Mixpanel, Hotjar or any other product analytics tool.
- No session recording and no heatmaps. Nobody replays your visit.
- No fingerprinting scripts and no data brokers.
- Nothing that reads what is inside a file you opened in a browser tool. It never leaves the tab.
The consent step
There is no cookie banner on this site today. If you are signed out, Google Analytics and the AdSense slots load without asking you first. The only switch that exists is the analytics one in account settings, which needs an account to hold it.
For visitors in the EU and the UK, that is short of what the rules ask for: analytics and advertising cookies there are supposed to wait for a yes. A consent step is planned. Until it ships, this paragraph is here rather than a screenshot of a banner that does not exist, and the opt-outs in the next clause work today.
How to control it
On this site
- Sign in and turn off analytics tracking in your settings. The script is then not loaded at all on any page you visit — this is an opt-out, not a checkbox that saves and does nothing.
- Take any paid plan and every ad slot on the site stops rendering, so AdSense never loads.
In your browser
- Chrome: Settings › Privacy and security › Third-party cookies
- Firefox: Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Settings › Privacy › Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings › Cookies and site permissions
Blocking all cookies keeps the browser tools working, but you will not be able to sign in.
With Google
- Google Analytics opt-out add-on — stops Analytics on every site, not only this one.
- Google My Ad Center — controls how Google personalises the ads you see.
- Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out — an industry-wide list.
Changes
A cookie added to the site gets a row on this page in the same change that adds it, and the date at the top moves. What we collect and how long we hold it is covered by the privacy policy.
