Listing images that do not slow the page down.

A product page is mostly photographs, so a page that feels slow is usually photographs that are too big. Take the megabytes off without taking the detail off.

You start with
JPG PNG WEBP
You end up with
The same image, smaller

How it goes

2 steps

Each one is a tool you can open on its own. The order is the part worth keeping.

  1. Image compressor

Drop the images in and read the real size before and after. Nothing comes out bigger than it went in.

  2. Image converter

Save to WebP where the storefront supports it, which is usually the largest single saving available.

Answers

Questions people ask

Will the photograph visibly change?

Compare them before you download — both are on screen. The setting that produces a visible change is a setting you can move back.

Is resizing better than compressing?

Usually first, and then compress. An image displayed at 800 pixels wide that is 4000 pixels wide is carrying five times the pixels nobody sees.

Do these images get uploaded anywhere?

No. The compressor, the converter and the resizer all run in this tab — the file never leaves the machine you are sitting at.
